Sensational Stellar Inventions!

The Macomb Intermediate School District in partnership with the MISTEM Network launched Operation Lift-Off: MISD Mission Moon!

We called all 4th grade aspiring astronauts, engineers and curious minds! They joined us on a learning adventure as we learned about the next phase of space exploration. NASA is going back to the moon and we wanted to help.

With Artemis missions, NASA will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface, "to explore more and conduct more science than ever before" (NASA). We invited you to be a part of the Artemis generation and learn about lunar base camps, rockets and space innovations. We needed you to think up and draw your invention ideas. We believed in you, we believe you are a force for good and your ideas have the power to ignite innovation.

With Little Inventors and our community partners, we infuse innovation by leveraging children’s innate curiosity, honoring their inventiveness and connecting them with industry professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

We are inspiring the next generation of space explorers with science, literacy invention and innovation at the heart of it all. Our students will build a better future and contribute their ideas to the global world. At the end of this project, several inventions were chosen to be brought to life and were showcased in June 2022.

Prototyping Astronaut Helmet

Cardboard artist Lottie Smith teaches you to make your very own astronaut helmet. Watch the film to follow along step-by-step with Lottie and download the written instructions to remind yourself of the techniques. Use this as a starting point to inspire invention ideas or to learn new prototyping skills to show other ideas.
